Summer Scout for Disadvantaged Children project aims to enable children aged between 9-15 to actively engage with peers through educational and leisurely scout activities resulting in a better understanding of using their free time wisely and actively, thus building their self-esteem and confidence by developing their social interaction and communication skills.

August 10-19, 2018

SUMMER SCOUT FOR DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN

The project seeks to enable children to implement using time wisely into their daily lives. It provides opportunities to learn new hobbies, interests and gain new skills to increase emotional well-being as well as to be able to spend quality time independently not relying on screen entertainment.

To facilitate diverting wasted screen time indoors into active and constructive play;

  • Scouting activities including environmental conservation, physical recreation, camping, cycling, hill walking, orienteering and hobbies activities.
  • Sports activities ranging from football, high ropes, and team building sports to archery.

To support children’s spiritual and mental well-being and to increase their self-esteem and independence;

  • Inspirational talks and seminars.
  • Mind sports exercising the brain i.e. board games and charades.
  • STEAM activities encouraging mindfulness through calligraphy, marbling, DNA detectives and scientific experiments.

The children will be informally observed, registers will be taken and developments will be recorded. Activities will also be repeated to record progress. Feedback questionnaires will give us information on success rates.

The project aims at supporting children to conquer personal challenges, overcoming fears and developing resilience. It seeks to help children develop their confidence in approaching and making friends with their peers through team building activities and most of all, accessibility to experience and opportunities otherwise unavailable within the formal education system. It also provides an opportunity to learn about British culture through various activities encouraging feelings of belonging.
